Reading at Sundridge & Brasted
Intent
At Sundridge & Brasted, we strive to ensure that all of our children become competent, confident and lifelong readers.
Reading is truly at the heart of our curriculum and we ensure that children are exposed to a wide variety of high-quality texts through shared reading, from the moment they enter Reception, until they leave us in Year 6.
Implementation
Children are taught to read through Read Write Inc – a systematic, synthetic phonics programme that ensures that all children can confidently read before moving onto comprehension. When they are ready, children are taught comprehension through Read Write Inc Comprehension, before finally moving into whole class Reading Comprehension sessions provided by Literacy Tree.
All children are assessed regularly using the online platform Accelerated Reader. This ensures that all children read at a level that is comfortable and enjoyable for them.
