Intent  

Design & Technology is an inspiring, challenging and practical subject which prepares children to contribute to the development of our rapidly changing world. At Sundridge & Brasted throughout EYFS, KS1 and KS2, children are encouraged to become responsible consumers, creative thinkers, problem solvers and potential innovators. Children are encouraged to consider how theirs and others actions can impact God's world and how we use our unique talents and gifts to act responsibly and to shine as lights in the world.  

 
Children understand that their unique creativity, imagination, and gifts enable them to tackle relevant social and environmental problems for today’s society. Children will explore technical and practical skills, through experimenting with a range of tools, materials, processes and techniques, in the areas of construction, mechanisms and food and nutrition. In addition, children are expected to build their understanding of a product’s purpose, aesthetic and function, and to test out their ideas and to critique and evaluate the work of others. They are encouraged to be responsible consumers and consider the impact on the world around them.   

Implementation

At Sundridge & Brasted, class teachers ensure that the progression of skills and knowledge in Design and Technology are achieved in a well thought out manner. Skills and Knowledge are taught alongside other subjects and meaningful links are made where possible so children can see how design and technology links with the wider world.
