Music is very important at Sundridge & Brasted. We have an active choir, which includes children from all year groups, led by our Headteacher, Mrs Kathy Taylor, who also runs the recorder club. Kent’s ‘Wider Opportunities’ scheme has provided ‘Cello and Tenor Horn lessons, enabling all our year 3 and 4 children the chance to learn an instrument free of charge for a year. Private lessons are currently available (for a fee) in piano, guitar, clarinet and violin, as well as recorder which is taught in a group and is free.
Performance is a great confidence booster and the opportunities to perform in a small school are many. All our children perform on stage for school productions and many also participate in concerts and at local events. The benefits of musical development are well documented and besides its obvious creativity value, it is also know to have close associations with development in mathematics.
