Maple Class had a wonderful day visiting The Rare Breeds Centre in Ashford. The sun was shining and there was so much to do it was an action packed day! The children enjoyed seeing and handling the animals and learning all about how to care for them. We were lucky enough to even see piglets that were only two days old and some beautiful little chicks, goats, horses, cows, rabbits and guinea pigs.
The children enjoyed hearing from one of the farmers all about how to care for some of the animals and having the chance to ask some questions. They met a very cheeky lamb during our session who tried to eat our map which we all found very funny! We had fun in Creepy Crawley World where we saw tarantulas, huge pythons, an iguana and lizards. The children enjoyed seeing some beautiful birds of prey and going on a magical (if not a little warm) walk through the new butterfly tunnel. We then had an exciting tractor ride and enjoyed seeing the farm whizz by as we sat on bales of straw in the trailer behind!
Finally it was lunch time and we decided to enjoy this in the sunshine in the picnic area. Maple class were intrigued by the pig racing so we gathered to watch the fun. Reggie and Rafael volunteered to be pig handlers for the race and guided our pig along the course. Well done boys! Our wonderful mini bus driver and helper on the trip Mel treated all the children to ice creams and they were very much appreciated- thank you Mel!
The children loved visiting the gift shop to spend some money and were all brilliantly behaved I must add. We managed to squeeze in a little bit of time in the huge play area and everyone had a go on the very large zipline (even the adults!)
Everyone had a fantastic day and they represented the school brilliantly, we all felt very proud of them!
