Excellent English

The children have been discussing the characters within 'Journey to the River Sea.' They worked in teams to collect evidence from the text, to explain the characteristics of each main character, how others felt about them, and their own feelings.

In term 6, Elm class have been reading 'Journey to the River Sea' by Eva Ibbotson. The story is set in the Amazon rainforest. They used their questionning habit of mind to pose questions about what they would like to find out about the Amazon, then carried out independent research in order to answer these. The information they gathered helped them to plan a non-chronological report too.

Elm class studied 'Holes' by Louis Sachar. They loved learning how to 'hook' their reader, by leaving unaswered questions; something Sachar does brilliantly. Throughout this novel study, they produced a number of different genres of writing: here are some of their favourite pieces.
