Art

We learnt all about the Mexican festival: the day of the dead. This is a celebration of loved ones who have passed away, where they use brightly coloured, highly patterend skeletons and skulls for decorations. We focused on scultpture in art, and used paper and masking tape to sculpt our own skull shapes, before painting them, using patterns such as flowers, to finish them off.

Art is our focus subject this term, with our topic of: Gallery Rebels. We learnt about the style of painting that the impressionist artists used, focusing on their use of brush strokes, colour layering and that they didn't like to use black. We practiced using washes and dashes, then applied this to copying a section of a piece of Claude Monet's work.

In art, we learnt about the colour wheel. We now know which types of colours appear on it, how to create them and how it is arranged.  Also, we used this learning to think about the moods or feelings different colours can create.
